An evening of original theatre, music and food in the New Farm Barn all raising money for Grow for the Stop.

Share your stories of adventure, romance and summer fun.
Kitchenband, is gathering interviews, historical archives, original music, videos, images, rollerskating, carnival games and dancing to create a RADIO PLAY and live performance based on the tiny amusement park in the Detroit River.

We want to hear what made it special for you. Did you ever get caught doing something there you shouldn't have? Know any friends who got into trouble? Have a memorable moment or significant event? Do you have old movies of your trip to Boblo sitting in the basement?

Send them to us!

We may use your words in the show - we may use your voice in the show. Your words or memory may inspire a song or scene for the show. But of course, everything is confidential.

It's been a while since we've updated the blog, but we've been busy . . . really, we have. Here's what we've been up to and what is coming up:

Detroit Time Machine at Nuit Blanche North in Huntsville
On July 9th Detroit Time Machine was pleased to be a part of the inaugural Nuit Blanche North in Huntsville, ON, Hosted by Edge of the Woods Theatre. We kept the people of Huntsville up into the 'wee hours' with our brand of junkstrument music and interactive installation. Thanks to Dan and the volunteers for your help. Kitchenband in Residency
Kitchenband has just completed its fourth round of development for the project Boblo as part of our residency at The Theatre Centre with a public showing that happened on July 8th. Next round takes place in September and there's lots of exciting developments coming along with that. Please stay tuned. www.theatrecentre.org

Kitchenband at the New Farm in September!
Kitchenband will present the play Petrichor by Erin Brandenburg at the New Farm Harvest Festival in Creemore, Ontario on September 17th. This event is a fundraiser and includes an amazing organic dinner served by the people who grow the food and music by the Sunparlour Players to finish the night. More details to follow shortly.

Harvestfest Hootenanny at HarbourKids

Here's some photos from our Hootenanny Adventure at The HarbourKids Harvestfest at Harbourfront Centre this Thanksgiving. We made shakers and let the little ones play Iner's instruments. They bashed and shook to their hearts content and we even managed to make some music together. It was three loud days, but they were fun oh boy.

Reesor at the New Harvest Festival in Creemore, ON

We had the privilege to perform Reesor at the inaugural New Harvest Festival in Creemore, Ontario along with the Sunparlour Players. The festival was hosted by the New Farm and sponsored by Bernardin and Blundstones with all proceeds going to The Stop Community Food Centre in Toronto . The night began with homemade soup served in jars then we with the audience seated on haybales we performed the play in the barn. When it was all done we ate some more delicious organic food and then danced the night away to the tunes of the SPP. How can you beat that?

This Thanksgiving weekend Kitchenband is teaming up with the Harbourfront Centre's HarbourKIDS: harvest festival to bring you the Kitchenband Hootenanny!

October 9 - 11th from 11am - 5pm @ the Lakeside Terrace at Harbourfront Centre

Come make some instruments with Iner Souster and learn to play them or just make some noise with Andrew Penner and Erin Brandenburg at the Hootenanny! It's free all weekend.

Fundraiser Clothing Swap!

Stop by for some super chic and super cheap clothes and help support our upcoming workshop of Petrichor by Erin Brandenburg.

Baked goods, live music and good times guaranteed!

Help us raise funds to support an upcoming workshop of Petrichor by Kitchen Band Productions.

Stop by Iner Souster's wonderful space, The Sixth (1642 Queen St. West) on Saturday April 17th from 2- 6 pm and pick up some super chic, super cheap clothes and help us raise money for the workshop.

The idea for the clothing swap is that we get people to donate men's and women's clothes that are gently used. Then we put them out at the swap and people can come and buy them for $1. And there will be bands playing, beer, wine and baked goods for sale, all and all a good time afternoon.

Any clothes not sold will be used as costumes in the show or donated to good will.

If you have a clothing donation please send a message to work out a pick up/delivery time or bring them along on Saturday. Pass this on to anyone else you know who might be interested.

Kitchen Band Productions makes its company debut as part of HATCH: emerging performance projects at Harbourfront Centre with its workshop presentation ofPetrichor, a play inspired by the rural landscape of Southern Ontario and the conflicts within the farming communities that inhabit it.

Petrichor, a term which means the smell of rain on dry ground, is a new play by Erin Brandenburg that tells the story of a family of Mennonite migrant workers and the farmers who need their labour. Petrichor weaves simple and lyrical storytelling with songs, movement, animation and foley and a live landscape to tell a story of work and land, home and loss.

Petrichor combines the talents of many of the creators behind the Fringe/Summerworks hits Reesor “NNNNN (out of five) - Grass roots theatre at its best”- NOW Magazine, “Four stars (out of four) - Points Canadian theatre in the right direction” - Eye Weekly; and Pelee “NNNN (out of five)” - NOW Magazine, who now come together for the first time as Kitchen Band Productions.

Based on true stories and found materials collected through interviews with farmers and migrant workers in Southern Ontario, Petrichor is the third in a series of plays, that includes Reesor and Pelee, based on small town life in rural Canada. Its rustic, DIY aesthetic includes a live soundscape played on handmade instruments made from recycled and reclaimed materials while growing plants, rain and projected images create a miniature farm yard.

Petrichor features text by writer/performer Erin Brandenburg, music by Andrew Penner (Sunparlour Players), Gord Bolan and Henry Adam Svec (Peter Mansbridge and the CBC’s, The Boy From E.T.), animation by award winning artist Howie Shia, and foley and design by Toronto artist Iner Souster. This presentation offers audiences a look into the creative process of some of Toronto’s most exciting theatre artists and is the culmination of a weeklong residency in Harbourfront Centre’s Studio Theatre with a Q & A to follow each performance.
